Christian Day School and Preschool-
Day School: An accredited school offering a Christ-centered learning environment for grades K-8.
Preschool: Messiah offers a half-day preschool program for 3 and 4 year olds which prepares them for kindergarten. The three year old (PK) two day a week program is held in the morning 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The four year old (JK) program offers two or three days a week options with extra sessions being held on Friday.
Confirmation Class: Instructional preparation for youth in the beliefs and practices of the Evangelical and Confessional Lutheran Church. Students in Messiah school receive instruction each day by the pastors and teachers in grades seven and eight. Public school children in grades six through eight receive instruction on Wednesday evenings from the pastors.
Fellowship Groups-
Kids For Christ: A youth group being developed focused on ministry to the children from birth through 6th grade. Junior High
Youth Fellowship: JHYF is the Youth Ministry sponsored educational and fellowship program for junior high youth in grades 7-8.
Lutheran Youth Fellowship: LYF is the Youth Ministry Board sponsored educational and fellowship program for high school youth in grades 9-12. The program is lead by two couples from our congregation who report to a committee of Youth Board members.
Men’s Basketball: Good exercise in a Christian sports environment. Practice and compete with area sister congregations for fun and fellowship during the basketball season.
Senior Citizens: This group of "over 55" young men and women from Messiah and other churches meets at Messiah the second Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m. for a pot luck dinner and activities. They also travel to other churches during the other weeks in a round robin.
Sunday School: The Sunday School, a ministry of the Youth Board, which meets on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. - 10:20 a.m., is a teaching ministry of Messiah by laity for all children from 2 years through high school. Volunteer teachers are guided by the Sunday School Superintendent who works with the teachers and meets with them periodically to review teaching and plan special activities including the Christmas program.
Vacation Bible School: This summer ministry for children 3 years to 8th grade is held every summer for one week.
Heit’s Point Lutheran Camp: This Missouri District Outdoor Ministry is located on the beautiful shores of the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri. Each year an Outdoor Festival is held in June which includes a Worship Service under the big tent and an old fashioned Barbeque for lunch. Dr. Oswald Hoffman, Terry Dittmer, and others have been Worship leaders at this event. The camp has built the Dr. Paul Spitz center which is used for conferences and camping retreats. Secluded cabins as well as dining facilities are available for year round enjoyment. During the summer, camps are scheduled for youth, singles, and seniors with activities on the athletic field, lake fun, campfires, and bible study and devotions. Music Ministries-
Kinderchoir: Preschool - Kindergarten
Cherub Choir: Grades 1 -2
Seraphim Choir: Grades 3-5
Joyful Singers: Grades 6-8
Adult Choir: Practices every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. from August to May.
Handbell Choir: Practice each Wednesday, before adult choir, at 6:15 p.m.
Band: Grades 5-8 Performs musical and special concerts.
Service Ministries-
Acolytes: Junior youth, grades 7-8, participate in the lighting and extinguishing of worship candles for each service.
Altar Guild: The Guild serves Messiah by setting the Lord's Table for communion services, keeping linens, pastoral robes and acolyte robes clean, filling the baptismal font, and changing the altar paraments to coordinate with the church year. They also decorate the church for Easter, Christmas and other special occasions and arrange for altar flowers.
Banner Makers: Individuals design and construct banners for special occasions to be hung in our sanctuary.
Booster Club: The club supports the athletic programs of Messiah school with primary emphasis in Christian sportsmanship among players, fans and coaches. Besides handling concessions during games, the club sponsors various events, i.e. Sports Banquet, Back to School Barbecue, Sock Hop, etc.
Counseling: Marriage, family and individual counseling is available from the pastors. Confidentiality is maintained. Referrals may be made.
Lutheran Mission Association Auxiliary: A charitable organization of women of LMA association churches who support and promote the ministry of the LMA and its workers.
Lutheran Women's Missionary League: The LWML is the official ladies auxiliary of the LCMS. Their mission is to assist each woman in the LCMS in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in a ministry to the world. Monetary gifts (the Mite Box) support world mission projects. Locally, Messiah LWML is divided into three circles who engage in various projects such as making baptismal banners, serving funeral luncheons, collecting items for LWR and Mother's Refuge, and preparing items for LMAA. Business meetings are generally held in January, April, September, and November.
Anna Circle: Meets the second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. Hannah Circle:Meets the second Sunday of each month at 12:00 p.m. Rachel Circle:Meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
Meals from Messiah: In time of joy and time of sadness or incapacity, Messiah provides meals to church members. The LWML provides a chairperson who serves as the coordinator. The church office contacts the chairperson who contacts the person in need to make arrangements. The chairperson then calls providers. Everyone may help provide food by being on the provider list.
Mothers Refuge: The Refuge is a pro-life inter-denominational Christian ministry, originally begun by Messiah. With two locations, the Refuge serves the needs of young, single, pregnant women who desire to give birth and need help.
Nursery Roll: This early childhood ministry provides spiritual materials for new parents through a mailing program. Parent Teacher League: Through organized group activities, the PTL furthers the spiritual and human development of boys and girls of Messiah Christian School and Day Care, works to enhance their home life, and maintains good relations between school and home. Meetings are held during the school year.
Ushers: Ushers under the direction of the elders provide for the preparation of God's house for worship, distribution of bulletins, and general ushering of worshipers. Each service has a head usher. The ushers are organized into eight teams with 5-6 ushers per team and a team captain and serve on a rotational and assigned basis. |
